Called the "Citrus Capital of the World" for its many orange and lemon groves, Santa Paula, California is a quiet town of around 29,000 residents, just 45 miles west of Los Angeles. Located in Ventura County, Santa Paula is noted for its Latin flavor, friendly atmosphere and quaint downtown shopping district.

Shopping and Dining

Although there are few large retailers within the city, Santa Paula real estate owners will find plenty of independent stores. The historic downtown shopping district features a number of retailers, including Main Street Comics and Go-Getter Books. There are plenty of big box retailers in nearby Oxnard and Camarillo Premium Outlet Mall, with its 150+ discount retailers, is just a short drive away.

Santa Paula real estate owners need never go hungry. The city offers a myriad of delicious eateries, offering everything from Mexican food to steaks and seafood. Of course, local produce is featured prominently on many area menus. Favorite local restaurants include La Terraza for Mexican food, Zapparelli's for pizza and Vince's Coffee Shop for meeting friends and neighbors.

Parks and recreation

One of the most enjoyable things about owning Santa Paula real estate is the abundance of parks and green spaces in and near the city. The City of Santa Paula owns and manages 12 parks and green spaces--eight mini parks, two neighborhood parks and two special interest parks. Facilities include a swimming pool, a dog park, hiking and biking trails, children's playgrounds, ball fields and tennis courts.

Living

Santa Paula real estate runs the gamut from California ranch-style homes to early 20th century bungalows to apartment-style and semi-detached condos. There are also a few luxury properties located in the hills that surround the city. In short,there's something for most every taste and budget in Santa Paula. School, Health, and Transportation

School age children of Santa Paula real estate owners attend the schools of the Santa Paula Unified School District. The district, which has an enrollment of around 7,600 students, manages nine schools, including six elementary schools, one middle schools and two high schools. The area is also home to several private schools, including Mary Law Private School in Oxnard and Ventura County Christian School in nearby Ventura.

For higher education, there is a community college--Oxnard College--in Oxnard and California State University-Channel Islands is located in Camarillo. Of course, there are dozens of other colleges and universities in the greater Los Angeles area, including UCLA and USC.

Santa Paula real estate owners don't have to worry about access to quality health care. Santa Paula Hospital, a division of Ventura County Medical Center, offers acute care facilities as well as a 24-hour emergency room, an urgent care center and a cardiology care center.

It's easy to get around Santa Paula given the town's compact size. The city is located on CA 150, which connects Santa Paula with Ojai to the north. It's also near CA 126, which connects the city to Ventura and the Pacific coast beaches to the west and to Santa Clarita to the east.

For trips outside of the region, Santa Paula is just a short drive away from Santa Barbara Municipal Airport and Los Angeles International Airport, both of which offer commercial flights to points within California and beyond.
